City officials and community advocates launched their 2010 Census campaign on Friday to urge New Yorkers to be counted. New York City Comptroller John Lui and Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, along with community organizers discussed their efforts to remind all new Yorkers, even those without status to participate.
“For every person legal or illegal who chooses not to participate, the state looses $3,000 of federal funds,” said de Blasio. “And that is money that goes to much needed services. If people don’t participate, they don’t exist.”
